Reporting by Ben Colgan and AJ Murphy

ColáisteChoilm’s 1st year soccer team enjoyed a fantastic 7-1 victory over Rochfortbridge on Friday. The game kicked off at 10.30am and was played on astroturf at Mullingar Soccer Grounds on a wet and windy morning.

The first half kicked off very lively, with Jamie Hoey getting an early chance, which went just wide. CC got their breakthrough not many minutes later, with Jamie Hoey delivering a great ball to the back post and Jack Dunne was there to place it into the bottom corner.Rochfortbridge just couldn’t cope with CC consistent attacking threat. Jack Dunne scored once again, after some great work in the midfield by George Plunkett, to make it 2-0. Riley McEvoy then added another to the growing tally and Ronan Kinnarney shot just wide moments later. Jamie Hoey was a constant threat down that left hand side, as he narrowly missed, but it wasn’t long before ColaisteChoilm made it 4, with Ronan Kinnarney the goalscorer. An unlucky own goal by the Rochfortbridgecentre back made it 5-0 to a cruising CC at half time.

The second half started pretty alike to the first, with plenty of chancescoming CC’s way. ColaisteChoilm played a short corner, 5 minutes into the 2nd half, and Jack Dunne secured his hat-trick with a superb goal. Rochfortbridge did end up stepping it up a gear and found a way through to get themselves a goal. They had many chances in the 2nd half to score again, but they just couldn’t find their 2nd goal. It was nearing the end when substitute Oliver Foy scored the 7th and final goal of the day for CC. Final score was ColaisteChoilm 7-1 Rochfortbridge.

Star Performers

The obvious main performer was Jack Dunne scoring his hat-trick, but this victory was a team effort. Ronan Kinnarney provided a goal and an assist and George Plunkett was strong in that central midfield role. Riley McEvoy scored a great goal and Jamie Hoey was a serious threat down that left hand side, providing an assist. Finally, Oliver Foy made an impact, coming on from the bench and getting himself a goal.
