Coláiste Choilm’s 2nd Year Basketballers advanced to the final of their tournament today, with a victory over Bagnalstown, Carlow.

The game kicked off at 11am and was played in our school hall with loud home support in attendance.

The 1st quarter began evenly with both teams having chances to take the lead, but CC struck first .. through Adam Geraghty. Bagnalstown quickly responded with 2 points of their own. After that, Coláiste Choilm were rampant, scoring 6 points without reply coming from Adam Geraghty, Bart Dusza and Kyle Kelly.

Bagnalstown stayed with them however, responding with 4 points of their own. The quarter finished with both teams trading scores.

1st Quarter score was 12-10 to Coláiste Choilm.

The 2nd Quarter was one of low scoring with only 4 scores throughout.

An amazing 3 pointer from Thomas Prendergast gave CC a lift coming into the quarter, but Bagnalstown responded again. Thomas Prendergast stopped a guaranteed 2 points for Bagnalstown, before dribbling down the other end and adding another 2 points to the scoreboard. A free throw was scoring just before the interval and the 2nd Quarter score was 17-13 to CC.

The 3rd Quarter was where Coláiste Choilm really started to pull ahead, scoring a total of 11 points in the quarter. It was started by Bart and Thomas followed suit, both with 2 each.

Bagnalstown pulled 2 points back but it was wiped out by Kevin Dunne before Thomas Prendergast swished an amazing 3 pointer. Bart added another 2 points to the tally before a late rally from Bagnalstown cut the gap. 3rd Quarter score was 28-20 to Colaiste Choilm.

The last Quarter was dominated by CC and Thomas Prendergast. Thomas began the scoring with 4 points, including another 3 pointer. Bagnalstown did start the half strong with 6 points making for a tight half, so we thought, but Coláiste Choilm pulled away with 6 points from Thomas, 2 from Jake McCumiskey and 1 from Bart. Bagnalstown came back again but in the end, Coláiste Choilm reigned supreme.

The final score was CC 46-32 Bagnalstown.
