COLAISTE CHOILM UNLUCKILY BEATEN BY NAAS CBS

Reporting by Ben Colgan and Sam McEvoy (Second years)

Coláiste Choilm were beaten by Naas CBS on Friday Dec 5th in a wet and windy Newbridge. The game was played at Kildare Centre of Excellence on a day that wasn’t ideal for a hurling affair. The game kicked off at 10.30 but Coláiste Choilm arrived late and didn't get as long to prepare as Naas did.

The 1st half started with Naas scoring a rather lucky goal which our keeper, Tom Lynch, couldn’t prevent. It took a while for the lads to get going but unfortunately Naas got going straight away. They powered over 1-2 in no time and it was looking grim within a few minutes for CC, but they never gave up. They travelled down the field and won 2 frees, cleanly slotted over from Conall Minnock. Coláiste Choilm won the next kickout as well, which led to a goal chance but it was a fine save from the Naas keeper. This gave Naas momentum and advanced down the other end of the field and scored another goal and 3 points. Another free slotted over by Conall Minnock and a score from Keith O Rourke gave Coláiste Choilm a way back into it, but again Naas were too strong and scored 1-2 just before the half. The scores at the break were CC 0-04 to 4-07 Naas CBS.

The 2nd half was a rather low scoring half with little action as the rain and wind ramped up in Newbridge to make the pitch even more difficult to play on. CC got off to a good start with Keith O Rourke slotting over 2 points in quick succession. This was quickly cancelled out by Naas, who scored 3 points back. Conall Minnock scored another point before Naas scored another also. Then, the chance came. The ball broke out from a ruck and fell to Martin Ward. He gave it off to Conall Minnock who walloped it into the back of the net. It was too late for Coláiste Choilm anyway and just before the end, Naas rounded it off with a score. Final score in Newbridge was Colaiste Choilm 1-07 to 4-12 Naas CBS.

STAR PERFORMERS

Jake Conlon was solid in the fullback line throughout the game with Darragh Stewarts tireless energy in front of him also worth noting. Conall Minnock was the standout performer, scoring 1-4 along with Keith O Rourke, who scored 3 points. The full forward line was full of movement all game also.
