    Ionad Rís

Our first special class, catering for students with a diagnosis of autism, was established in 2021. A second class was opened in 2024.

Each special class has the capacity for six students, and students enrolled in the Ionad Rís class may access Level 1, 2 or 3 Junior Cycle programmes (or a combination of these).

Curriculum planning is in line with individual student's strengths, abilities and needs.

The overall aims of the Ionad Rís class are:

    • to provide a positive, inclusive learning environment where students with Autism and co-occurring complex needs feel and experience a sense of community and belonging.
    • to develop students’ academic, social, emotional and independent living skills.
    • to promote students’ participation and active engagement in their learning and in Coláiste Choilm school life.

Integrating these students into the fabric of our school community has resulted in enhanced rewards for students and teachers alike. Our dedicated staff work tirelessly to ensure that each student participates in school life with dignity and confidence, and that all the boys are encouraged, motivated and provided with the necessary tools to realise their full potential.

    Enrolment/Admission Procedures

Parents or teachers of a student with an ASD diagnosis may find further information about enrolment in Ionad Rís in our Admissions Policy.
