Sport
Sport is a central part of life at Coláiste Choilm, and we take great pride in our strong sporting tradition. Students are encouraged to get involved at all levels, promoting not only skill development and competition, but also teamwork, discipline and overall wellbeing.
We field teams across a wide range of sports and compete at various levels, including Senior, Under-16, Under-14 and First Year, entering all competitions wherever possible. In response to the growing importance of health and fitness, we actively encourage every student to participate and enjoy the benefits of regular physical activity.
Physical Education is a key element of the curriculum. All Junior Cycle students are timetabled for P.E. and follow the syllabus set out by the NCCA, while Senior students are timetabled for games, allowing them to further develop their skills and fitness.
Our students compete in a variety of sports, including:
- Gaelic Football
- Hurling
- Soccer
- Futsal
- Basketball
- Athletics
In addition to inter-school competitions, a wide range of in-school activities ensures that all students have opportunities to stay active and engaged. These include:
- Badminton
- Table Tennis
- Indoor Soccer
- Futsal
- Gymnastics
- Orienteering
- Cricket
Coláiste Choilm is proud of its excellent sporting facilities, which support both training and competition. These include a full-size gymnasium, fitness suite, all-weather training pitch, basketball and tennis courts, table tennis facilities, and extensive grounds suitable for activities such as orienteering. Our programmes are supported by experienced and qualified staff who are dedicated to developing each student’s potential.
To further enhance our sporting provision, we also make use of local facilities when required, including Tullamore Harriers Athletic Club, O’Brien Park, Leah Victoria Park, local fitness centres and swimming pools, as well as the Birr Outdoor Adventure Centre.
Through sport, students at Coláiste Choilm are encouraged to lead active, healthy lifestyles while building confidence, resilience and a strong sense of community.
