Coláiste Choilm Student Council
The Student Council of Coláiste Choilm is one of the most active student organisations in the school. It is supervised by Ms. Murray, who works hard each year to ensure that the council is well organised and prepared for its responsibilities.
The council begins its work every October, when elections are held in each year group. Three students are elected from each of the Junior Cycle years and four from the Senior Cycle. There is also the option to co-opt members from the previous council if needed. The Student Council oversees the election process, and once the new members are chosen, Ms. Murray provides training on the various roles within the council and the responsibilities that come with them.
Following this, officers are elected. These roles usually include President, Vice-President, Secretary, Vice-Secretary, and a Public Relations team. Once the roles are assigned, the council begins its work in earnest, holding weekly meetings to discuss school matters and organise activities for students.
At times, the Student Council also works closely with school management to discuss important policies such as anti-bullying, uniforms and healthy eating. In addition, council members assist with after-school events, including parent-teacher meetings and the school’s Open Night, where they help provide refreshments for guests.
The Student Council is a respected and prestigious group within the school community. Its members work hard to organise events and represent the interests of the student body. Each year has been successful so far, and the council hopes to continue building on this success in the future.
