Green Schools
Coláiste Choilm is proud of its beautiful and spacious campus, which features a rich variety of trees, shrubs and open green areas. This natural environment provides an ideal setting for promoting sustainability and environmental awareness among our students.
Our commitment to environmental responsibility is reflected in our success in the Green Schools programme, where we have been awarded four Green Flags to date. These achievements are the result of the dedication and hard work of our Green Schools Committee and their coordinators, who continue to drive positive change throughout the school.
We are currently focusing on biodiversity and encouraging more sustainable transport options, particularly promoting the use of bicycles among students. Alongside this, the school has a strong policy of reducing waste through recycling and reusing materials wherever possible. Initiatives include the collection of printer ink cartridges, batteries, mobile phones and plastic bottles.
Raising awareness is a key part of our approach. The Green Schools Committee actively engages the student body through posters, notices, assembly presentations, newsletter articles and competitions, helping to foster a culture of environmental responsibility.
In a recent initiative, funds raised through the bottle return scheme were used to install a new refillable water bottle station in the school, further supporting our efforts to reduce single-use plastics and encourage sustainable habits.
Through these ongoing initiatives, Coláiste Choilm continues to empower students to take an active role in protecting and enhancing their environment, both within the school and in the wider community.
