Pastoral Care & Student Welfare
At Coláiste Choilm, the wellbeing of every student is at the heart of everything we do. We recognise that a young person’s success in school is closely linked to their overall wellbeing, and we are committed to providing a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where each student can thrive. Our duty of care extends across all aspects of school life, supporting students in their intellectual, physical, emotional and social development.
To ensure every student feels supported on a daily basis, we have developed a strong and effective network of pastoral care structures. This includes our Pastoral Care Team, Class Tutors, Year Heads, and our highly valued Cairde Mentors, who play an important role in supporting younger students as they settle into school life. Additional supports are provided through our Chaplaincy service, Home School Liaison Officer, Guidance Counselling department, and access to both external counselling services and psychological supports.
In addition to pastoral structures, a range of student services are in place to support everyday school life. These include a full canteen service, student lockers, and a variety of initiatives designed to support academic progress and wellbeing.
One such initiative is our Study Skills Programme, alongside supervised after-school study, both of which help students to develop effective learning habits. Our Study Academy, offered to 1st and 3rd Year students, provides a structured and supportive environment where students can explore different revision techniques and discover the study methods that best suit their individual learning styles. By removing distractions and offering expert guidance, the programme helps students to use their study time more effectively and build the skills needed to retain and apply information with confidence.
Through this comprehensive approach, Coláiste Choilm ensures that every student is supported, valued and empowered to reach their full potential, both academically and personally.
